Choosing The Correct Disc For Your Game

We at DiscStalker have strived to take out some of the guess work involved in choosing the right disc for you based on your abilities and shot selection. We have achieved this by categorizing discs based on the relative skill level a player must have in order to throw a disc as it was intended by the manufacturer and by grouping discs that perform well for a given type of shot (i.e. overhand or roller). As you improve your game you will likely find that discs that fit into the lower categories may still be some of your favorites and work best for you (i.e. an advanced player may throw a disc suitable for a beginner very well) however, throwing discs designed for a player of a higher skill level than yourself will often cause you to sacrifice distance, accuracy and or shot shaping ability.

Below is a breakdown of the different skill levels we have used:

Beginner: Typically throws in the 100’-225’ range. Likely sees “nose up” throws that tend to climb higher than intended and stall out, falling down left for a right handed backhand player.

Intermediate: Typically throws in the 225’-335’ range. Has a good understanding of the disc golf throwing technique but doesn’t quite generate the disc speed required to make the most demanding discs fly well.

Advanced: Typically throws in the 335’-450’ range. These players can generally make any disc on the market fly as they were intended.
